The Domino Theory
Our fathers and grandfathers watched Hitler invade Belgium and then
France.
Soon he invaded Russia after invading Poland.
Halfway around the world they watched Tojo invade China and then the
Philippines before invading one Pacific Island after another while
conquering Singapore and then threatening Australia.
Hitler could have never invaded Russia without first conquering Poland
just
as Japan could have never conquered Singapore and environs without first
subduing the Philippines. Is it any wonder that the subsequent years
saw
millions of Americans subscribing to "The Domino Theory" as we
confronted
communism? Can anyone deny that North Korea and China anticipated
conquering South Korea? Is there any doubt that North Vietnam, China,
and
Russia anticipated absorbing South Vietnam and then the rest of the
surrounding nations? Are there any doubters about the clear intent of
Russia to steadily turn Caribbean, and Central and South American
countries
communist while eventually conquering the US and Canada along with
Western
Europe?
Communist world conquest was attempted and rebuffed one domino at a
time.
The widespread death and destruction visited on South Vietnam and the
retreat of Russia from Afghanistan and eventually from the majority of
nations they had occupied for decades were the result of resistance that
kept any further "Dominoes" from falling to this bankrupt system.
There is another bankrupt system that has been threatening the downfall
of
rural America, one "Domino" at a time for 40 years. I speak of the
Environmental/Animal Rights Radicalism (EARR) system that has made
alliances with bureaucrats, anti-gun factions, anti-private property
groups,
anti-capitalist extremists, and anti-American groups intent on
establishing
an international government that they will control.
The EARR activities have steadily impoverished rural communities and
diminished rural activities from logging and ranching to hunting and
rural
safety. Through selected lawsuits; clandestine "partnerships" with
federal
bureaucrats enriching themselves while manipulating federal politicians
focused on but one thing - reelection; and a widespread disinformation
program incorporating schools, the media, and entertainment EARR has
established laws like The Endangered Species Act, The Marine Mammal
Protection Act, The Clean Water Act, The Wilderness Act, The Animal
Welfare
Act, and thousands of pages of "Federal Regulations" on everything from
Roadless Areas to Marine Area Closures and experimental animal
registration
requirements that have given them and their bureaucrat "partners"
control
over a portion of American life that rivals and may even exceed the
gargantuan Health Care Bill spawned by the same "uni-focused"
politicians.
Loggers, ranchers, animal owners, animal users, "public" land users,
public
land management, State sovereignty, rural economies, etc., etc. are all
disappearing right before our eyes. Think of them as "Dominoes".
The unintended consequences are staggering. While there is no doubt
that
the Animal "Rights" branch of EARR intends to abolish animal ownership,
animal use (of every kind), hunting, ranching, animal husbandry,
trapping,
fishing (both commercial and sport), and any possible advocacy for these
traditional and cultural activities formerly protected by our
Constitution:
their Environmental counterparts look forward to eliminating dams and
power
generation and private property and the use of timber and forage and
private
vehicles and engines, etc., etc. - what of their other erstwhile
partners?
What of the anti-gun and anti-capitalist and pro-one world government
agendas? They are hidden in all these "Clean" this and "Endangered" and
"Protection" that Acts that make us all warm and fuzzy when we hear them
mentioned.
Let us look at but one of hundreds of such examples, the forced
introduction
of wolves under the auspices of The Endangered Species Act. While
wolves
are no more in any sort of worldwide danger than mice, they have been
"Listed" by the bureaucrats and their "partners" like The Defenders of
Wildlife (an organizing founder of EARR). So wolves are dumped into the
SE
US, the SW US, and the Upper Rockies States by federal bureaucrats where
they are ruthlessly "protected" by federal overseers as they wreak havoc
on
everything from big game herds and livestock to dogs and the human
safety of
rural residents (particularly children and the elderly). (ONE DOMINO)
Simultaneously, the EARR lobbyists in certain states campaign for laws
to
ban the use of dogs to manage (i.e. "kill a predetermined number")
cougars
in order to keep their harmful effects to a minimum amount supported by
local communities. In other states, the same groups lobby for laws to
ban
the use of traps for similar bear management. In each such state,
cougars
can only be reliably harvested with dogs and bears can only be reliably
harvested with traps. In yet other states, baiting bears is similarly
being
challenged to eliminate the only reliable harvest methods in those
states.
We can call the elimination of 3 harvest methods for cougars and bears
(THREE DOMINOES).
At the same time as wolves are forced into areas where they have not
existed
(purposefully) for decades:
- Ranching losses escalate and reduce ranchers (ONE
DOMINO).
- Dogs are killed everywhere and dog ownership diminishes (ONE
DOMINO).
- Coyotes and rogue dogs cannot be controlled for fear of killing
a
wolf (ONE DOMINO).
- Big game populations no longer support hunting so hunting and
hunters disappear. (ONE DOMINO).
- Rural real estate prices plunge as wolf attacks and depredations
discourage relocations and rural lifestyle adjustments similar to
Russian
peasantry thereby making federal and EARR land acquisition and
control
programs more far-reaching (TWO DOMINOES).
- As hunting and rural residents disappear, gun ownership (and
therefore 2nd Amendment support) dwindles (ONE DOMINO).
- As the rural population dwindles, cities and states look to
Washington and (naturally) Washington looks to expanding their
"power and
prestige" by promising them "more" from joining the rest of the
world
(DOMINOES GALORE).
But what about the unintended consequences mentioned before?
- Well think about the Maine bear trappers that are
no longer allowed
to trap bears. Who will find the bear that attacks a child or
continually
destroys property or threatens a community? Who will catch or kill
it? Who
will have the skill or knowledge? Biff the EARR lobbyist? Buffy
the
uniformed lady that was in all those pictures cuddling bear cubs or
testifying about the suffering of a dying bear?
- Think about the dog pack trainer and cougar/bear
hunter that can no
longer hunt cougars or bears. Since he can no longer justify
training, much
less feeding a pack of dogs for no purpose he must sell them or
destroy
them. He, like the trapper, no longer passes along his skill and
knowledge
and tradition to his sons or young friends. The whole culture and
tradition
disappears so who helps the Sheriff find the cougar that just killed
a
jogger? Who can help find the child that disappeared from a
backyard as a
bear or cougar dragged him or her off? This is no job for pest
control or
the veterinarian that campaigned so hard to "protect" the dogs and
the
cougars and the bears.
- Who will remain in a rural America where rampant
and deadly
predators run free? Ranchers can no longer make a living. Children
can no
longer fish behind the house or camp out or even take out the
garbage or
walk to the bus stop where wolves have been seen or where cougars
have just
killed calves in a barn or where bear "house break-ins" are
occurring. Young
people can't even hunt alone or even go for a walk. Retirees have
no
interest in retiring to a rural homestead where grandchildren can't
visit
for fear of attack or where deadly diseases have occurred thanks to
large
predator vectors frequenting rural homesteads. What businesses will
remain
as the lifeblood of rural communities slowly runs into the dust?
What
schools will be built there? Who will pay County taxes? Who will
pay for
County law enforcement? What state can exist with only its' cities
to suck
it dry? While they each hold contempt for one another, imagine an
Illinois
that was only Chicago and suburbs or a Massachusetts that was only
Boston or
a California that was only Los Angeles and San Francisco (think
Blade
Runner).
If and when the dust ever settles on this EARR v. the
rest of us
confrontation, what will it be like? Will everyone be under their
thumb
like South Vietnam today? Will they be thrown back and will freedom
blossom
once again like Poland today? Will it be a continuing hostility
like
Chechnya or Georgia or Tibet?
We need to throw off the yoke these EARR advocates have been forcing
on us
for forty years and hope that the young people of the USA understand
what
the Founding Fathers knew and what our fathers and grandfathers knew
as
well, freedom isn't free and the only way to stop bullies are to
stand up to
them. I am betting that our young people, like the young people of
Poland,
will know what to do when the time comes.
