Members of the Yurok
Tribe will have the opportunity to learn about important tribal issues
and speak with the Yurok Tribal Council and other tribal officials
Saturday at the tribe's annual meeting.
No action is planned, and
all tribe members are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held
at the Yurok Tribal Offices in Klamath at
9:30 a.m.
"The purpose of the
annual meeting is for the tribe to have a dialogue and talk to the
membership and provide them information about what's been going on with
the tribe for the past year," Yurok Policy Analyst Troy Fletcher
said. "The council has intended to highlight four or five main
issues and to have specific presentations for the membership."
In particular, Fletcher
said, the meeting will cover updates on the Hoopa-Yurok Settlement Act,
gaming, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and dams along the
Klamath, as well as economic development for the tribe. There will also
be discussions surrounding the
Yurok Tribal Court
.
"This is an update
on where things are and what the tribe is thinking on where to move
forward," Fletcher said. Question and answer sessions will be held
after each presentation.
When the meeting is
finished there will be a dinner and time for visitation between the
council and all tribal members in attendance.
"This is the annual
membership meeting for the Yurok Tribe, and we certainly welcome all
members," Fletcher said. "It's an opportunity to have a good
meal and to visit with many of your relatives."
