playwright and filmmaker Stephen Most will appear at the
Northcoast Environmental Center today to read from his new
critically acclaimed book “River of Renewal.” The author will provide a historical look at the collapse of the Klamath salmon, an exploration of alternative futures for the Klamath basin and a discussion of the important role citizens have to play in the conflict, a news release stated. Most will engage his audience in a discussion and will sign copies of the book at NEC headquarters at 575 H St., Arcata, at 7 p.m. Food and drink will be supplied by the NEC. “River of Renewal,” published last fall, uses both myth and history to tell the stories of the Klamath River. The author has been widely praised for offering multiple layers of context needed to understand the conflicts that have consumed the Klamath River for more than 100 years, the release stated. From tribal perspectives to Tule Lake farmers and federal fish biologists, Most uses material from extensive interviews to chronicle views of the Klamath basin from a diverse cross section of communities. Most is also regionally recognized for his work as a playwright and documentary storyteller. He has scripted plays such as “Medicine Show,” “Watershed” and “A Free Country” to dramatize Pacific Northwest history. |
