Fish sticks

Daniel Solomon/The Eureka Reporter

9/8/2007

David Gensaw Sr. places fillets of fresh wild salmon from the Klamath River to be slow cooked in the traditional fashion — on redwood stakes — for hungry customers, Saturday.

Gensaw, with his grandsons Willey and Walker, and relatives Brendan, Chris and Tina Gensaw and Wanda Lincoln, prepared, cooked and served up the salmon along with fry bread and beans for the
Clarke Museum ’s seventh annual Salmon Stick Barbecue.

The event is a major fundraiser for the museum, with the proceeds assisting the museum’s operations of preserving the history of
Humboldt County .

A new exhibit opened in unison with the salmon barbecue dinner; a collection of historical fishing gear and related items, from poles and reels to lures and licenses, is on display throughout the fall. The
Clarke Museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
