Klamath settlement agreement back before supervisors

Feb 17 2008

Eureka Reporter

During a regular meeting Tuesday, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors will take up the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement that aims to clear the way for the removal of four dams on the Klamath River and a massive $1 billion restoration effort.

As they did on Jan. 22, when county representative and Supervisor Jill Geist led a presentation to the board, supervisors will hear comments from the public.

Public Works staff is recommending that the board note the potential effects on the county of executing the agreement and conditionally approve the document contingent upon the approval of a hydropower agreement between the multistate group of negotiators and the dams’ owner, PacifiCorp.

According to staff reports, Public Works will bring back the finalized agreement at a later date for the board’s final review.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Supervisors’ Chamber.
