Klamath County residents will
have an opportunity to weigh in on Oregon’s land-use
laws and possibly motivate changes.
The Big Look Task Force will be
in Klamath Falls Tuesday for a town hall meeting. The
state appointed group is charged with reviewing the
state’s planning system and gathering testimony from
citizens across the state.
County planning director Les
Wilson said he’s glad the group will be here
and that county commissioners and members of the county
planning commission will attend. Other members of the
public also should attend to share their experiences.
“They need to hear both sides of it,” he
said.
The task force began holding its 10 town hall
meetings on Sept. 17. The K lamath Falls meeting will be
the first of five east of the Cascades.
Wilson said he’s heard that issues stressed at
meetings so far have concentrated on the state’s
approach that land-use planning regulations and statutes
be consistent across the state, from congested urban
areas to relatively open rural regions.
Wilson said residents are free to bring up any
land-use issue, including Measure 37 and Measure 49
claims, wildlife overlays and statutes affecting
construction of a shopping center on the southern end of
Washburn Way.
Commissioner Al Switzer said he
wasn’t sure what his specific comments would be when he
attends the meeting. He would like to see more
consideration given to a regional planning approach
rather than have all planning matters go through Salem.
