Commissioners to discuss ballot initiative at meeting

The Klamath County Board of Commissioners today will discuss putting an initiative on the November ballot that would ask voters if they are in favor of Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement.

The board was still in the process of drafting the initiative Monday afternoon. Commissioner John Elliott said he did not know yet what the initiative would specifically   ask voters, but said it would likely ask if they are for or against the KBRA, a settlement that allocates water among stakeholders in the Klamath River Basin.

The meeting is at 9 a.m. today in room 219 of the Klamath County Government Center, 305 Main St.

The initiative would serve as an advisory election, meaning it would only poll public opinion, and would not be legally binding.

Siskiyou County residents will vote on an advisory election in November that asks if they support the removal of three hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River in California. Dam removal is a key component of the Klamath Hydroelectric Agreement, which it tied to the KBRA.
