Dams should remain on Klamath

January 24, 2008
Klamath Falls Herald and News Letter to the Editor

Klamath River Pacific Power dams should not be removed as proposed in the Klamath River water settlement.

I fully agree with the statement by Paul Vogel, spokesman for PacifiCorp. He said: “One questions what was settled. When the license holder and several hundred thousand customers didn’t have a seat at the table, that is irresponsible. We initiated settlement talks three years ago. To have no part in crafting of this document, it really makes you ask yourself what substance there is to it.”

It is ludicrous to even consider removing dams that are a renewable energy source that create no air pollution. Per the Herald and News, these dams generate 750,000-megawatt-hours of electricity a year enough to provide 70,000 customers power.

Why should we as Pacific Power customers pay $180 million for dam removal?

Stop this nonsense now.  Please write to PacifiCorp headquarters and say, “No Klamath River dam removal.”  The address: PacifiCorp, 825 NE Multnomah  Street , Portland , OR 97232 .
