Farm to food forum planned

Will be held at Ponderosa Junior High on March 31

Klamath Falls Herald and News

March 17, 2008

A forum on “Building Local Food Networks, What’s Possible?” is planned 12:20-2 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Ponderosa Junior High School cafeteria.

This forum is for food service managers, parents, school administrators, food distributors, farmers, growers, chefs, restaurant owners, farmer’s market supporters, and anyone interested in a sustainable community.

Cory Schreiber, Farms to School Program Manager for the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Katrina Wiest, wellness specialist from the Bend-LaPine school district, representatives of the Klamath school districts, and local growers will share thoughts on how a local food network can be built in the Klamath Basin

Farm to school programs throughout the state are connecting school cafeterias with local farmers to improve the health of students and the local economy.

The forum and lunch are free. The event is sponsored through a grant received from KMSB and with coordination from Healthy Active Klamath Coalition.

Registration is required by March 27. Call the OSU Extension Office at 883-7131, or e-mail patty.case@oregonstate.edu
