How about being a pilot study for Congress?

Klamath Falls Herald and News

Letter to the Editor

November 11, 2010

Hooray for equal ratios among major competitors working toward a good cause.

One common truth is that A will never equal B and that A plus B equals C change.

With respect for 18-80 and the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement, suppose A equals pro-dam competitors and B equals con-dam competitors and C equals the KBRA.

Assume A’s want sustainable farmland and jobs, recognition of historical significance of dams, scientific proof, mercy for immigrants and energy.

Assume B’s want restoration of animals, plants, earth and people, mercy for Native Americans, recognition of cultural significance, and sustainable human resources. Assume C’s wants justice and   mercy for A’s and B’s.

Within Measure 18-80 is an example of a resolution, which speaks for both A’s and B’s. Keep one dam, JC Boyle for tests and measurements, a fish ladder and viewing sites, a cultural center recognizing the historical progress, diversity, conflicts, and peace in the Klamath Basin, usable energy, permanent jobs for scientists, archaeologists, farmers, engineers, laborers, fisherman, anthropologists and an opportunity for financial growth of community banks, tourist industry, real estate and recreationists.

Keeping two dams would lead to no change and a lot of discord, keeping four dams leads to lots of discord as does losing four dams, keeping three dams leads to no change and lots of discord. Which leaves keeping one dam with a lot of change and minimal discord.

Knowing that pros and cons are on the same side of an equation, can we work together for peaceful change here in the Klamath Basin and be a pilot study for Congress to do the same with their projects?
