Attorney General Eric Holder announced Friday that the Klamath Tribes
will receive $539,798 in American Recovery and Investment Act funds,
according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The funds will be awarded over the
next two years. They will be used to improve available services and
support mechanisms for domestic violence and sexual assault victims. The
Tribes will also increase staff to improve their response time to
domestic violence incidents.
Klamath Tribes officials did not
return phone calls to comment.
The Office on Violence Against Women
Recovery Act Transitional Housing Program awarded the funds, part of the
$2.8 million set aside by the OVW for the Tribal Domestic Violence and
Sexual Assault Coalitions Program.
The Klamath Tribes
are the second Basin entity to receive Recovery Act Funds from the OVW.
The Klamath Crisis Center also received $499,978 in funds Sept. 4 to
support its transitional housing program, distributed to the
organization over the next three years, officials said.
