The U.S. Department of
Agriculture has designated Klamath
County as a primary natural disaster
area due to ongoing drought conditions.
The declaration makes available drought
assistance to farmers and ranchers in
Klamath, Deschutes, Douglas, Jackson,
Lake and Lane counties in Oregon, as
well as Modoc and Siskiyou counties in
California, according to a press
release.The
designation makes all qualified farm
operators in designated and contiguous
areas eligible for low-interest
emergency loans from the USDA Farm
Service Agency. Farmers have eight
months from the date of declaration to
apply for loans to help cover their
actual losses. More information will be
available from local USDA Service
Centers.
