Assemblyman’s
district includes Modoc and Siskiyou counties
California Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa, whose district includes Modoc
and Siskiyou counties, was named vice chairman of the Assembly
Agriculture Committee.
LaMalfa, who will serve as the lead Republican on agrictultural
issues, is one of the only active farmers in the California
Legislature. He pledged to use his new position to advance issues
critical to California’s farming economy.
Critical role for agriculture
“Addressing the needs of our ag industry to operate in this
state is critical for our food supply, its quality,
and for our food security. Working with my colleagues to address
the difficult regulatory challenges facing farmers will be a top
priority,” he said.
“Also, advocating the positive steps farmers take to produce and
improve environmental quality will be an important component in
our agricultural policy decisions. The dire need for
infrastructure such
as water storage and flood control improvements will continue to
be among my highest priorities,” La Malta said
Lawmaker is a farmer
LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing the Second Assembly
District including Modoc, Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Colusa,
