Local products, including sugar beets, would be considered for ethanol

I would like to respond to W. E. Kennedy's Jan. 18 letter to the editor in support of E85's desire to locate an ethanol plant in Klamath Falls. For your information E85 has also preselected sites in New Mexico, Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio through a very competitive nationwide process.

When E85 first visited Klamath many months ago, the possible use of sugar beets was brought to our attention by the leaders of KCEDA and Team Klamath as something the Klamath Basin could grow for E85.

Although E85 will initially base its ethanol production on corn, the company fully intends to explore the use of locally produced farm products suited to ethanol production, ranging from sugar beets to cellulosics.

Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive responsive to E85 from the business and agricultural community.
