Modoc,
Siskiyou qualify for loans
Klamath Falls Herald and News
July 13, 2006
Fifty-two counties in California and Nevada, including Modoc and
Siskiyou counties, are eligible for emergency loans from the United
States Department of Agriculture because of the Secretary of
Agriculture’s designation of an emergency for the state of California
last month.
The designation stems from physical and production losses that may have
occured between December 2005 and April 2006 from unprecedented rainfall
and severe weather.
Farmers have eight months to apply for the loans to help cover part of
any losses. To be eligible, farmers must have suffered at least 30
percent loss of normal production because of the incident, be able to
repay the loan and any others, be unable to obtain credit elsewhere,
have adequate security and multiperil
insurance if possible.
All applicants must complete a certification of disaster losses, which
should reflect the exact dates of the designated disaster.
