NRCS program accepting applications

   The Natural Resources Conservation Service is now accepting applications for voluntary conservation programs that provide technical and financial assistance to farmers in order to conserve natural resources on private land, according to a news release.

 

   Applications are due by Oct. 22.

 

   To apply for a program, visit www.or.nrcs.usda.gov or visit the Klamath Falls office at 2316 South Sixth St., suite C, or call 541-883-6932.

 

   Among the programs:

 

   Environmental Quality Incentives Program: Funds tree thinning as bark beetle mitigation.

 

   Agricultural Water Enhancement Program: Provides financial and technical assistance to growers in the Lost River watershed who want to conserve surface and ground water with irrigation system improvements, irrigation water management, and riparian treatments. The program is available within Wood, Williamson and Sprague river watersheds.  

 

   • Organic Farming Initiative: Provides financial and technical assistance in transitioning to organic food or dairy production.

 

   Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program: Provides technical and financial assistance to develop farm land into habitats for wildlife of national, state or tribal significance.
