A
governing body
organized under
the proposed
Klamath Basin
Restoration
Agreement will
have its first
official meeting
at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at
Klamath
Irrigation
District
headquarters,
6640 KID Lane.
It is open to
the public.
The
Klamath Water
and Power
Agency, or KWAPA,
is the
intergovernmental
agency called
for in
the agreement.
According to an
email sent by
Klamath Falls
attorney Bill
Ganong, the
meeting will
focus on
electing
officials,
adoption of
by-laws and
other
organizational
matters.
The
restoration
agreement is a
256-page
document
developed by
fishing,
farming, tribal,
environmental
and governmental
stakeholders.
Along
with removal of
four
hydroelectric
dams on the
Klamath River,
it seeks
stabilized
power rates and
water supply for
irrigators and
the use of
public funds to
buy private land
for the Klamath
Tribes.
KWAPA
will be
comprised of
representatives
of the
irrigation
districts within
the Project,
said Greg
Addington,
executive
director of
Klamath Water
Users
Association. It
will manage and
allocate water
resources in the
Klamath
Reclamation
Project and
manage energy
resources for
irrigation.
