| No-till drills are available for rent from the Klamath Soil and Water Conservation District. |
The fields aren’t quite firm enough yet, but planting season is right
around the corner.
With
that, the Klamath Soil and Water Conservation District’s no-till drill
program is ready to get back on the fields.
Two
no-till drills are available for rent from the district.
District
manager TJ Woodley said the program has been helpful to area farmers and
has the potential for savings on input costs, an opportunity this year
to compensate skyrocketing fuel costs.
Machine
saves passes
The
machine discs, plants and covers seeds, which could save farmers between
one and three passes across the field, Woodley said.
Depending
on practices, the no-till drills could save somewhere between $1,600 and
$4,800 on 100-acre planting costs, or about $16 to $48 per acre, Woodley
stated in a press release.
Rental costs run producers about $11 an acre plus an
$80 delivery fee to cover maintenance and moving costs to the district.
The district has two 15-foot no-till drills. The program is in its sixth
year. For more information on the program or to schedule the drill for
use, contact TJ Woodley at (541) 883-6932.
