Qualifications for the two offices are different

Klamath Falls Herald and News

Letter to the Editor
May 1, 2010

I must apologize for ignoring the obvious: Some individuals do not recognize the different qualifications required for a state representative compared to county commissioner.

Bill Garrard is a seasoned state representative with a proven record of representing his constituents and previously served as a Klamath County commissioner.

Karl Scronce has no experience in the political arena other than surrendering to the liberal agendas promoted by the Democrat-controlled State Legislature.

The state level of politics is no place to get on the job training.

It is very common for a concerned citizen such as Dennis Linthicum, however, to step up and run for county commissioner to make a positive difference in our local government.

He recognized the need for change in county government.

A large proportion of successful county commissioners originate from successful private business enterprises. Linthicum has proven his ability to operate in the very complex world of business. He has all the credentials to help Klamath County through the continuing challenges before us.

To set the record straight, I have never been involved in the county charter issue and signing the dam removal agreement is only one issue involving John Elliott.

Exactly what has having a seat at the table gotten us? Just more empty government promises and less water available.

Other issues with Elliott would include approving the expensive county road shop building, loss of Costco, lack of oversight while being the liaison commissioner over the Veterans Affairs Office and the Klamath-Lake Employment Training Institute, when each organization was embroiled in scandal.

All elected representatives need to be held accountable when they ignore their constituents and show lack of effective leadership, especially in their designated areas of responsibility.

As far as having revenge as my goal, letter-writer Jo Chapman (April 25) obviously does not know me or what I believe in.
