Reasons for dams still valid

February 20, 2008

Klamath Falls Herald and News Letter

AP item Jan. 30: “ California salmon numbers at near-record low.” There is no guarantee that dam removal will increase the salmon runs up the Klamath River .

All the reasons for putting the dams in place — hydroelectric power and flood control and the like — are still valid.

When this state puts together a nuclear power plant, then they can start talking about “modifying” the dams.

The Klamath Tribes are already recipients of the oldest welfare system in this country and their input in this “water deal” should not be a factor.
