Restoration agreement will aid local economy

Klamath Falls Herald and News

Letter to the editor

August 26, 2010

If you’ve been to this year’s Klamath County Fair or have visited downtown during Third Thursday, you’ve probably seen yellow signs or balloons that say “KBRA=JOBS.”

You may have even seen roadside signs around the Basin and wondered what these signs are all about. The Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement is an agreement to end water wars in the Klamath Basin and to form a foundation of cooperation instead of continual conflict.

We are a group of local farmers, ranchers, tribal members, residents and members of the business community who have decided to come together to lead a grassroots effort to educate the public about the benefits of the KBRA.

Our message is simple: The KBRA is good for our community and our economy. When our economy is strong, employment rebounds.

The KBRA seeks to end uncoordinated short-term fixes to the rotating crises in the Basin for farmers, ranchers, tribes and fishermen. Instead, under the KBRA, we will work together to address long-standing water issues to create stability and economic vitality in our communities.

The number of living wage jobs that will be added to the Klamath Basin will support growth of our economy and sustain natural resource-based jobs that already exist.

Under the KBRA, we can expect to see an increase of jobs in agriculture, engineering, biological sciences and construction. This, in addition to a real benefit to other businesses that support the community when it is growing and vital, such as restaurants, hotels, movie theatres, gas stations, etc.

Join us as we work towards a better future for our county, community and children. Log on to Facebook and search “KBRA=JOBS” to stay up to date on the latest news about the KBRA and its benefits for the Basin.

Yes, and we are going to raise everyones power bill (already done) except for the sgnators to the KBRA because they placed a cap on their power rates. Why didn't they cap mine?

We are going to raise everyones taxes due to the fact that the dams won't be able to be removed for the estimated cost and therefor the feds will step in and finish the job. Oops, I forgot that is federal money so we don't have to worry about it just like the stimulus that brought millions of jobs. And we are going to purchase 90 thousand plus acres for the tribe once again with federal money that never has to be repaid.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal (for some).
