Singing
the late Klamath water blues
Klamath Falls Herald and
News
Letter to the Editor
April 16, 2009
Sitting around waiting
for irrigation waters, thinking maybe
I’ve got the late water blues.
That sounds like a country song title?
Maybe it’s time the Klamath Basin has a
theme song denoting our water woes. The
police have made their song “Bad boys,
Bad boys” quite popular.
Ours could go like this: “I hear that
old Klamath roaring, taking our water
out to sea, singing those late water
blues.
“The big bucket has a
hole in it; ain’t no water here for me;
Just singing those late water blues.
“You can hear those old hydros whining
please don’t dynamite me.
“The deep well pumps are grinding and
grumbling, why you picking on me?”
Maybe the Herald and News and KLAD could
get behind this and shepherd it through
the system. Make a contest out of it.
Maybe readers could submit verses to the
paper. It needs to be kept in good
humor, but I think its time has come.
I know a couple of people who have
produced country music, Bill
Middlebrooks of Merrill and Gavin Rajnus
of Malin. They might take a shot.
I’m sure KLAD would give it a spin if it
has merit, and it may gain legs
nationally due to past publicity.
It needs something about government
agencies, Indian tribes and
environmentalists. Those folks don’t
always have a sense of humor, but they
can get use to it.
We also need to mention sucker fish, the
Endangered Species Act, off-Project
water users, headgates, and of course,
the Bureau of Reclamation. Obama’s
Bureau for at least the next four years.
