Hiding Easter eggs may be a little easier this year, especially if an incoming storm drops a few inches of snow Saturday night.
Forecasters for the National Weather Service say a series of cold fronts will result in colder temperatures, rain and possibly snow Easter weekend.
“It certainly looks like a couple of inches of snow is possible,” said Mike Stavish, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Medford office. “It’s going to get wet and significantly colder.”
After Thursday’s warm and sunny day, when temperatures around the Klamath Basin poked into the low 60s, Stavish said a cold front expected this afternoon will drop tonight’s lows into the 30s.
“But this isn’t the one that’s going to bring the most interesting weather,” he said.
Although light rain showers are possible tonight and early Saturday, Stavish said another storm system expected Saturday afternoon should begin as temperatures cool enough for snow Saturday night.
Snow levels on the west side of the Cascades could drop to elevations of 3,000 feet, well below mountain pass levels.
“The passes on the east and west sides of the Cascades are going to get kind of messy, especially Saturday night,” Stavish said. “A couple of inches looks possible.”
No road advisories have been posted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, but people planning to travel over the weekend are encouraged to check ODOT’s Web site at tripcheck.com for updated road reports.
Studded snow tires were supposed to be removed April 1, so travelers should carry chains.
Updated telephone reports on Klamath Basin weather forecasts are available by calling the weather service recording at 882-5060.
