State water officials will be talking about Klamath in Klamath.

Members of the Oregon Water Resources Department's commission will meet Thursday morning in Klamath Falls and then take a tour of the Klamath Basin.

The work session will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mazama room of the College Union at Oregon Institute of Technology. It will focus on water issues in the Klamath Basin. The tour will run from 1:30 to 5 p.m. The meeting and tour are open to the public.

During the work session, the seven-member commission will hear from department staff and panelists representing interests in the Basin. The commission, whose members are appointed by the governor, sets the state's water policy.

The public will need to provide its own transportation during the tour. Those planning to go should call Cindy Smith of the water resources department at (503) 986-0876.

The commission will meet again Friday morning for its regular meeting. While Klamath Basin issues will be discussed, so will other water issues around Oregon, said Barry Norris, an engineer for the water department.

Public comment will be taken at 11:15 a.m. Friday, according to the commission's meeting agenda.
