Grower Ry Kliewer works on carpentry projects during cold weather
months for his family. The winter also provides an opportunity to
work on the equipment he’ll use once the growing season starts up.
This time of year also provides time for other social activities
such as attending weddings and other celebrations. Ry and his wife
married during the winter because it was the only time they could
spare for it.
Not everyone involved in agriculture has a lot of time during the
winter. Jason Flowers and Ry’s brother, Ty Kliewer, have cattle to
feed and manage each day, regardless of the time of year.
The winter isn’t quite as busy, though, providing Flowers time to
travel and work on other projects and fix equipment that he’ll use
when growing wheat and other crops.
Ty, on the other hand, uses the extra time to help care for his
newborn son.
