council taking office
Ceremonies
are Thursday afternoon
By LEE JUILLERAT
CHILOQUIN — The Klamath Tribes’ new Tribal
Council will take office in ceremonies set for 1:30
p.m. Thursday at the Klamath Tribes Administration
Building auditorium.
Seven of 10 council members are new, including
chairman-elect Gary Frost, who outpolled
incumbent Joe Kirk and former chairman Allan
Foreman. Also new is Don Gentry, who will
replace Joe Hobbs.
Two other
officers, secretary Torina Case and treasurer Brandi
Decker, won re-election.
The six
elected tribal council members, in order of
votes, are Shawn L. Jackson, Albert Bert Lawyor
Sr., GeorGene Wright-Nelson, Jeff Mitchell,
Charles E. Kimbol Sr. and
Frank
Summers. Mitchell remains from the former tribal
council.
James D. Hill is
the newly elected chief judge.
Following a
reception after the swearing-in ceremony, the new
Tribal Council will have a meeting.
“It’s a great
opportunity for people to meet the new council,”
said Taylor David, the Tribes’ media representative.
Under provisions
of the Klamath Tribes Constitution, the new Tribal
Council will be seated at the
first Tribal
Council meeting after the election.
The elections
were April 22, and the Elections Board certified the
results. There were no reports of irregularities
during the 10-day filing period that ended Sunday.
Tribal members
and the public are welcome to witness the seating of
the Tribal Council. The meeting will be in the
auditorium of the Klamath Tribes administration
building.
