The Klamath
Tribes are moving forward with construction of a
$4.4 million travel center next to Kla-Mo-Ya
Casino and could be open
for business by Aug. 1.
Quick construction
According to
Klamath News, the official tribal newspaper,
mild weather and temperatures have allowed quick
construction of the Crater Lake Junction Travel
Center’s 7,800-square-foot main building, and
the goal is to have a roof on it by early March.
The Klamath
Tribes Economic Development Corporation, an
economic organization within the Tribes not
under tribal government, is overseeing
construction. Funding is split between
allocations from the Tribes and a $2.2 million
bank loan.
The travel
center will serve as a fueling station and also
have space for a Subway franchise and gift shop.
The economic development corporation is seeking
tribal members to submit proposals for the two
businesses, with a target opening date of Aug.
1.
Calls by the Herald and News to
the tribal economic development corporation were
not answered.
