Unrealistic
to try to bring salmon back to Klamath
Klamath Falls
Herald and News Letter to
the Editor
June 4, 2008
I have seen lots of water under bridges since 1936.
Many Indians desire the salmon to return to
Klamath
County
. This is unreal because the
powers-that-be would need to breach many dams (no irrigation; no
hydroelectric power).
The settlers and irrigators did not destroy all the
salmon. This lack of careful planning, storing water for irrigation,
trying to save a dying lake (Klamath) with all its algae, Mother Nature
on a rampage, have affected the return of the salmon.
Some things that led to the demise of salmon were the
Russian canning ships invading American waters, Japanese canning ships
doing the same,
California
rice growers using excessive amounts of water,
Los Angeles
diverting water big time
from other states to provide for the large populations and swimming
pools and oil spills on the ocean beaches from shipwrecks. The Japanese
current several times has played havoc with salmon.
Maybe you will think of other reasons.
If you analyze the situation here in
Klamath
County
, cost wise, you would never
be able to afford to bring back the salmon.
You could not afford to breach all the dams necessary
to accomplish this great feat.
