Dates
set for districts to end irrigation seasons
With many farmers preparing to harvest their crops before cold weather
sets in, irrigation districts around the Klamath Basin are set to close
shop in the coming weeks.
Horsefly Irrigation District will pull its pumps from the Klamath River on
Friday to end the irrigation season and the Klamath Irrigation District
will take final water orders Oct. 12 before shutting
off irrigation water Oct. 13, said district manager Dave Solem.
The shutoff will affect several other irrigation districts and entities
that receive water from the district. Enterprise, Malin, Pine Grove,
Shasta View, Sunnyside and Klamath Basin Improvement irrigation districts
also will no longer have water by Oct. 13, though they may choose shut off
before then, Solem said.
Tulelake Irrigation District has not yet set its shut off date, but
officials with the district said it would be near Nov. 1 and would depend
upon demand from the district’s water users.
