A meeting of the Klamath
River Compact Commission (KRCC) will
convene on the 18th day of May 2010 from
9:00 to 11:00 AM. The public meeting
will be held at the Klamath County Soil
& Water Conservation District conference
room located at 2316 South 6th Street in
Klamath Falls, Oregon.
The Commission welcomes a
new representative from the State of
California. Curtis Anderson, Northern
Region Office Chief of California
Department of Water Resources assumed
his responsibilities after the
retirement of Dwight Russell. I thank
Mr. Russell for his years of service on
the KRCC and look forward to working
with Mr. Anderson.
Agenda items will include
a presentation by Mr. Jon Hicks, Bureau
of Reclamation Klamath Project Planning
Division Chief, regarding the recently
released National Marine Fisheries
Biological Opinion.
The Klamath River Basin
Compact was ratified by the States of
Oregon and California in April 1957.
Enacted by the 85th Congress the Compact
was signed by President Eisenhower on
August 30, 1957. Major purposes of the
Compact, with respect to the water
resources of the Klamath Basin, are to
facilitate and promote the orderly,
integrated and comprehensive
development, use, conservation and
control for various purposes. These
include among others, domestic use,
irrigation, protection and enhancement
of fish and wildlife, industrial
purposes, hydroelectric power
production, navigation and flood
prevention (Article 1).
