Grants
are available to Klamath County irrigators to cost-share irrigation
efficiency improvements on individual agricultural operations. Eligible
projects include:
· Premium-efficiency irrigation and/or liquid manure application pump
upgrade and installation
· Variable speed drive installation
· Irrigation and/or liquid manure application pump rebuilds
· Soil moisture monitoring equipment
· Solar irrigation
· Retrofitting diesel or electric livestock watering pumps with solar
These
funds are available through a $200,000 federal grant to the Klamath Soil and
Water Conservation District (KSWCD) from the Oregon Departments of
Agriculture and Energy.
Projects will receive cost-share based on the energy savings associated with
the project. The KSWCD will work with irrigators and vendors to assess
potential energy savings, offer cost-share, and install efficiency
improvements, with support from the Oregon Departments of Energy and
Agriculture.
This
project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
awarded through the State Energy Program (SEP). These funds are designated
for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The US Department of
Energy administers the funds, approves the projects and reviews the state’s
progress.
Project
contractors must comply with federal wage and labor requirements, as well as
certain other ARRA requirements.
