Rebuttal to Pioneer Press Article - Shasta's

looking for gold in a casino?

Gary Lake, Vice Chairman - Shasta Nation Tribe
June 11, 2006

I always look forward to reading the next issue of the Pioneer Press Newspaper

(PPN) and I was quite surprised to read in the Wednesday issue of June 7,
2006 a front page article with the caption, "Shasta’s looking for gold in a casino?

This well written PPN article culminates a historical time line period of a saga in

which the Shasta Nation People have had to endure countless hardships and
broken promises beginning on or before November 4, 1851, which is the date

Treaty R was signed between the Shasta Nation Tribe and government representatives
of the United States of America (USA).

Currently the Shasta Nation Tribal Council and others are investigating certain covert improprieties that affect the well being and socioeconomic welfare of our people done

by interloping Indian Tribes and their associates illegally attempting to profit on
activities within the sovereign aboriginal territorial lands of the Shasta Nation People.

The deadline to submit this article to the PPN is this evening (Saturday) and there

is neither time or available results of our said on-going investigations to complete this

saga of hardships and broken promises being endured by the Shasta Nation People.

This saga will continue and it will be reported in the ensuing PPN issues.

The said PPN caption, "Shasta’s looking for gold in a casino?," written by PPN

reporter Liz Bowen, will be addressed in the ensuing issue of the PPN along with
other ignoble thoughts and ignoble deeds acted upon against the Shasta Nation People.

Regarding this paper’s reporter and her recent misleading insinuations of the Contract Proposal approved by Tribal Council, it should be pointed out that she had an opportunity

to address this Tribal Council for clarification and include credible information prior to printing her article. Said reporter declined to do so for media-buzz-word-hype such as the District Attorney’s definition of “fraud.”  The Contract Proposal referred to in this reporters
indirect assault clearly says on the front page “This prospectus is intended for information purposes only.  No funds will be accepted by any entity or persons referred to herein without proper legal review and approval; accordingly, this offering may be determined to be a “security” subject to rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission.”

Said reporter received an email sent after NUMEROUS attempts to contact her by phone

the very same night she called me for quotes. In the email, the following was stated:

"Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2006, From: “gary lake,”  To:  lizbowen@sisqtel.net,

CC: pioneerp@sisqtel.net"

"Once again, we (Shasta Nation Tribe) would be happy to speak with you Monday if you would like. If you are doing an article this weekend, and use information stated in said

Rogue Pundit article, it will be wrong.  I will try and reach the rest of the Council tonight
and tomorrow to accommodate your questions by your deadline."

"Best regards, Gary Lake"

NOTE: Said reporter DID NOT respond! If responsible reporting was practiced by the reporter, she would have learned the Contract Proposal she refers to is one of many that were submitted for Tribal approval and subsequent investor inquiries. It should also be
noted that despite her implied misrepresentation regarding federal recognition, not one penny has been “plunked down” and accepted without proper legal advice and review.

Said reporter should take interest in the definition of the following two words: 1.Negligent ~  (failing to take proper care in doing something) and 2. Fraud ~  (wrongful or criminal
deception intended to result in financial or personal gain).

In closing, reading the Pioneer Press has educated many people regarding events in Siskiyou County.  Please continue to support your local Pioneer Press newspaper by

buying it or renewing subscriptions. It is a good “bet” that it will usually be a good read as
long as you know the real facts.
