Mount Shasta, Calif. - Julian Colescott will share his biological knowledge during the upcoming Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center’s Klamath River rafting benefit scheduled for Saturday Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The trip is the second annual Ecology Center Day on the River — A Sweet Extravaganza fundraiser.

Colescott is a wildlife biologist with a Bachelors of Science in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Master’s Degree in zoology from the University of Wyoming, Laramie.

Prior to his formal education, Colescott completed tracking and wilderness survival courses and spent portions of several years living close to nature.

He is an experienced tracker and naturalist who has led Walks on the Wildside for the Ecology Center since 2001. He was a popular attraction in last years Ecology Center’s River Rafting trip, captivating both kids and adults with his presentation skills and in-depth knowledge of the area.

In addition to offering his ecological and natural history insights throughout the journey, Colescott will share his passion for tracking and birding with rafting participants.

He plans to keep the kids interested with long poled nets to capture and examine frogs and he expects to examine some interesting snakes and animal tracks along the way.

In addition to Colescott, the event will feature organic fruits as well as chocolate delights from companies that, like the Ecology Center, promote sustainable farming.

The journey will meander down the Klamath River from Tree of Heaven campground for seven miles through mild class 2 and 3 rapids. Kids four and older are welcome to join the fun.

Cost for this day of fun in the sun is $85 for adults and $55 for kids under 18. Reservations by Sept. 5 are requested.

Information about the trip can be found on the Ecology Center website www.mountshastaecology.org  or by calling the Ecology Center at 926-5655.

The Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the outstanding natural environment and cultural values of Mount Shasta and its surrounding bioregion.
