Alsea Response Oregon Coast Coho
Jan. 17, 2006: NOAA Fisheries Service announced that the Oregon coast coho evolutionarily significant unit (ESU) is not warranted for listing under the Endangered Species Act, and withdrew its June 2004 proposal to list the population as threatened. This finding concludes the agency’s commitment, begun in 2002, to update all of its salmon and steelhead listing determinations, consistent with a 2001 court opinion.
March 18, 2005: NOAA Fisheries Service solicited public comment (PDF 55KB) on the state of Oregon's draft assessment of the viability of Oregon coast coho salmon, and on contributions of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds to conserving Oregon coast coho. The comments received by NOAA Fisheries Service on the state's draft report are now available.
Feb. 9, 2005: The state of Oregon made publicly available a draft assessment of the viability of Oregon coast coho salmon, and of contributions of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds in conserving Oregon coast coho. To ensure that the final listing determination for Oregon coast coho is based on the best available information, NOAA Fisheries Service considered the state's draft report in making a final listing determination. NOAA Fisheries Service solicited public comment (PDF 55KB) on the state's draft report through March 11, 2005.
