Beware of the cow
and pig farts

I'm taking a
slight diversion this week,
to give you a heads up on a
situation that should be
placed into the radar screen
of those living in Siskiyou
County.
The Wyoming
Farm Bureau is warning of a
possible Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) fee
on cattle and hogs.
This is coming after the
Supreme Court ruling that
counts hog and cattle
flatulence - yes, cow farts
- as a greenhouse gas
emissions.
The EPA placed an
inconspicuous item in the
federal registry this last
June regarding greenhouse
gas emissions.
The EPA is saying that the
cow and hog tax is untrue,
but the EPA report briefly
mentions "raising livestock"
in its report on ways to
regulate greenhouse gases
under the provisions of the
Clean Air Act.
The Farm Bureau estimates
that the livestock tax would
penalize farms and ranches
that own more than 25 dairy
cows, 50 beef cattle, or 200
hogs by making them pay a
yearly fee of $175 for each
dairy cow, $87.50 for every
beef cattle, and $20 per
pig.
In Siskiyou County, we have
approximately 60,000 head of
cattle.
At $87.50 per head that's a
whopping $5.25 million in
fees because our cattle are
supposedly filling the air
with so many cow farts that
we are destroying the
environment.
Does this sound so illogical
that it could never happen?
Consider this for a moment.
On the short list of those
being proposed for Barack
Obama's Secretary of
Interior is none other that
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Yes, this is the same
Kennedy who has millions
behind him and a cabal of
attorneys attacking our
waterways here in Siskiyou.
He is also the one who
equates hog farmers as "a
greater threat to the United
States and democracy than
bin Laden's terrorist
network."
Kennedy has warned "We're
starting with hogs. After we
get done with the hogs, then
we're gonna go after the
other ones."
This situation would be
hysterical if it weren't so
sick.
Fasten your seatbelts, we're
in for a bumpy ride.
