ETNA-Learn the latest on what is happening with the
Scott River's salmon and steelhead through a presentation with visuals
by Erich Yokel, Fisheries Projects' Coordinator for the Siskiyou
Resource Conservation District (RCD).
The talk will be featured at the regular monthly
meeting of the Scott River Watershed Council on Tuesday, November
21st, at 7:00 pm at the Etna City Council Chambers.
Since 2004, biologist Yokel has helped the RCD collect data on salmon
and steelhead throughout their life cycles by performing adult carcass
surveys, juvenile direct observation studies, and out-migration
juvenile trapping. Fish habitat data are also collected to
better understand the quality and quantity of where the fish live.
Habitat conditions that are measured include water temperature, stream
flow, and sediment.
Erich will discuss how biological and physical
monitoring go hand in hand and are the two main components of
monitoring aquatic health. "Through effective monitoring,
people can provide more effective management", Erich believes.
He is also involved in several studies of factors that may be limiting
salmon and steelhead's numbers in the Scott River and its tributaries,
called "limiting factors analysis".
