I am James A. Waddell, a member of Karuk People of the Klamath
River. I am a Karuk Member who does not agree with many Political
Actions by a group of people who call themselves the Karuk Tribe of
California. They do not represent any majority of Karuk People. We
members, a majority who are living in distant areas, have never
given them our permission for such Political Acts or efforts to
remove Klamath dams.
I am a research writer, a member of Outdoor Writers
Association of California, and an author who has worked in history.
Please accept my often repeated comments regarding - No Dam Removal
- on the Klamath River. The removal of the Klamath River dams will
bring a loss of much-sought-after environmental-friendly production
of electricity that is sorely needed by the people - and desired by
other counties and states.
Such removal of dams will bring the loss of flood control, a loss of
control of summer water levels and will bring damage to other
Klamath River habitats with millions of tons of accumulated lake
sediment down the river channel. It will bring difficult decisions
of how to kill-off millions of non-native fish in the lakes of these
dams before such removal of dams.
There will be no significant reduction of algae because the algae is
developed in the Klamath Falls area's slow-water rivers, mineralized
springs, bird droppings of millions of birds and organic decay in
marshes and wet-lands where these waters are subjected to intense
sunshine.
The removal of the Klamath River dams will not bring salmon back to
Klamath Falls and its shallow, warm-watered lakes and slow-water
rivers. No salmon ever existed very long above the 14 miles of
state-line rapids because there are no spawning gravels there. Read
history by A. L. Kroeber or Stephen Powers, 1925 and 1877
respectively.
Do not allow agency personnel to manipulate printed public opinions
with unfounded political commentaries. They are supposed to be
working for the people.
