Our main food was salmon

To the Editor:

I am not a Karuk. I am not a Hupa. I am not a Yurok or even a Shasta. I am a Wailaki. My people lived along a river, not the Klamath but the Eel like you. My people's main food was salmon, like you. My people love the Mother Earth and believe in the Creator, like you.

The Governor of California has declared a state of emergency on our salmon population off the Pacific Coast . Many people will be out of jobs, may lose their homes and have to do without, in order to help save our salmon populations; a sort of fast from the taking of salmon.

In times of need my people would pray and fast to show their sincerity.

I am asking the tribes of the Klamath to fast. To fast from all or part of their yearly salmon allotment and follow suit to the governor's effort to save the salmon. If you truly care about the salmon, care and love Mother Earth and all our relations, care about the future of our children, then you will willingly and happily do this.

If anyone knows how to do without and survive it is our people. Mother Earth is calling and the Creator is watching. I am asking you to please take the
Red Road , not the Green one.

Scott Bar
