To the Editor:

Having read Guest Opinion, Pioneer Press,
4/8/08 by Anthony Intiso, Yreka, "The law of the river," this jarred my memory back to 1957 when a group of us people got together and came up with Save the Klamath. The late Al Kutzkey was secretary of the group, membership was for life.

It is true that all this was done, as Anthony Intiso said, through proper channels and congress, and signed into law by the President of the
United States , plus other agencies of Oregon and California . When attending these meetings back then, I cannot remember one person that represented the Yurok, Hoopa, Karuk, Klamath Tribes, they were not interested in what happened to the Klamath River back in 1957. If you remember a few years back they wanted to build a new am on the Klamath River , it was called Salt Caves Dam, above Copco Lake , This was stopped due to save the Klamath and Compact Agreement which was signed by the President of the United States and congress. This is the information the supervisors, should and could, stop the dam removals movement, once and for all.

Just look at the impact and detriment to the Klamath River if the dams are removed. I am a 50-year member of Save the Klamath. A copy of this is being sent to the board of supervisors. Hope they check into all the proper avenues.

Montague
