After speaking with a Siskiyou County Supervisor over the phone recently, it was stated that he, and implied everyone he knows, did not care about who is the rightful governing body of the Shasta People.

A few days ago I received an email that originated from another Siskiyou County Supervisor. She stated that people were "upset that Mr. Lake was speaking at the Grange and at the Republic Women as a representative of the tribe." Said Supervisor forwarded damaging and false information against the Shasta Nation. Said Supervisor passed on information that claimed the Shasta Nation was a "faction (Hall/Lake)," and that we had not come to terms with our successors, the Macdoel Group, recently calling themselves the Shasta Indian Nation. She continued to pass information stating that, "Mr. Lake has no authority speaking for the tribe."

In closing, she says, "The problem raises its head one more time. I feel like the old tv show- to tell the truth. Will the real Shasta Nation please stand!"

Well, if these two Siskiyou County Supervisors are confused as to who is the real Shasta Nation and which leadership has been standing up for water and property rights that effect the well being of Siskiyou County Citizens, I will allow both of them, as well as their bosses (the Siskiyou County People), to decide who they want to work with eternally.

Shasta Indian Nation (Macdoel Group) History of Origin:

Many people think there is more than one official Shasta Nation. This is false. The interloping Karuk and Alturas Rancheria tribes claim that they are working with the Shasta People by communicating with the "Macdoel Group." This is a group of people who are attempting to usurp and use the Shasta Nation title as their moniker. Some of these people were disenrolled from the Shasta Nation due to their ignoble actions against the Shasta Nation and
United States , or they quit the Tribe for personal gain. The original Macdoel Group joined John Newkirk, who claimed to be a Rogue River Indian Chief, NOT true.

At least one of their original leaders wrote letters on Shasta Nation letterhead to several terrorist affiliated countries, including Iran, Iraq (President Hussein) and Libya (Mohamar Kadafi), requesting $300,000.00 to arm themselves and wage war against the United States. You can imagine the confusion and horror that was created for our good Shasta People... This is treason to the Shasta People and the U.S. Government.

The current leader of the Macdoel Group (Shasta Indian Nation), was part of the original Newkirk group.

The Shasta People have fought long, and have endured many hardships to keep a legitimate and unbroken Tribal government from time immemorial. Please be aware that the Shasta Indian Nation (Macdoel Group) is NOT the bona-fide Shasta Nation. The Shasta Nation is petition #083 filed with the B.I.A.. Also, the Macdoel Group is NOT the continuous Shasta Nation government that signed our Treaty R on
November 4, 1851 with the United States government.
