Officials to increase water released

from Klamath Lake

Based on data controlling water releases from Klamath Falls, PacifiCorp will begin releasing water at a rate of 3,000 cubic feet per second from Klamath Lake into the Klamath River, the Siskiyou County Emergency Operations Center said today.
The first of this water should reach Iron Gate Reservoir at 9 or 10 p.m. this evening.

Engineers with PacifiCorp have determined that, based on weather forecasts for the next few days, this water should not have a significant effect on existing water levels in the Klamath River.

The Siskiyou County EOC also said the Klamath River and its tributaries are receding, though the river remains a foot or so above flood level at this time.

Residents should be aware that the Klamath River could rise once again with more rainfall, and they should be prepared to take necessary precautions.
