Recreational salmon anglers will be allowed to harvest up to 20,000 fin-clipped coho salmon off the central Oregon Coast this summer in a season that could run as long as 45 days under regulations adopted by the Pacific Fisheries Management Council.
Angling for coho in waters located between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain will be allowed June 17 through July 31.
The 20,000-fish quota applies to a larger area - from Cape Falcon south to the Oregon-California border. However, coho angling south of Humbug Mountain will remain open only through July 5, to protect depressed stocks of Klamath River chinook.
North of Humbug Mountain, sport anglers will be allowed to take two chinook salmon a day now through June 16 and after the "marked coho season" ends, in spite of severe restrictions on commercial chinook fishing in that zone.
