Scott Valley, Calif. — Tuesday’s Siskiyou County Board
of Supervisors meeting will be an opportunity for
constituents to provide input on a resolution to create
the county’s first groundwater advisory committee.
The draft resolution comes after the recently-approved
ordinance allowing for resolutions creating the
committees, which are intended to provide input to the
board on the groundwater resources of the various basins
in the county.
The resolution focuses on the Scott Valley groundwater
basin, and in its current form would establish a
committee with representatives from defined areas within
the basin, as well as representatives from the city of
Fort Jones and agricultural organizations, as well as
one non-agricultural groundwater user.
Among the many tasks listed for the committee is the
authorization to use technical advisors, giving
recommendations to the board and the responsibility to
“Review, evaluate, and advise the Board on the current
state of groundwater in the Scott Valley and on the
overall groundwater hydrology of the Scott Valley,
including groundwater-surface water connections.”
According to the agenda worksheet, the draft resolution
will appear at the meeting in order for any proposed
changes to be made before it is brought back to the
board after Nov. 18, the effective date of the
ordinance.
