Karuks begin to heal

SOMES BAR n More than 60 supporters gathered at Katimiin in Somes Bar on July 22 to “begin the healing” in response to a fire that destoyed the Karuk Tribe dance house on July 3.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's department say that that the fire is still under investigation. Lieutenant Jim Betts also said that the FBI plan to make inquiries into the case. The Karuk Tribe announced a reward of $10,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and capture of those responsible for the fire.

Donations to fund the reestablishment and rebuilding of the sacred house at Katimiin, the Karuk Center of the World, can be made to NCIDC/Katimiin, 241 F St., Eureka, CA 95501.
