Fishery management conference in Fortuna

January 24, 2007

EUREKA – The public is invited to attend a fishery management conference at Fortuna River Lodge Conference Center on the status and influence of disease pathogens in the Klamath River Basin.

The conference starts at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 31 and on Feb. 1 at the Fortuna River Lodge Conference Center, 1800 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna.

It is sponsored by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries Service), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Geological Survey.

A recent press release reported that the two-day conference will provide presentations on a number of issues concerning fish health in the Klamath River Basin with information developed by researchers from universities, tribes, the State of California and federal agencies.

Topics will include:

• Updates on the distribution and habitat of disease pathogen hosts;

• Rates of infection among salmonid populations;

• The influence of flow rates on fish disease; and

• The integration of fish-health research on fishery management decisions.

The full agenda is at  http://swr.nmfs.noaa.gov/news/FHW_Agenda_2007.pdf

This conference is free of charge and open to the public and news media.
