New report touts
economic gain from dam agreements
By David Smith
Siskiyou Daily News
October 13, 2010
Siskiyou County — A study released
Tuesday appears to show a link between the Klamath
Hydroelectric Settlement Agreement and the Klamath Basin
Restoration Agreement and economic development in
Siskiyou County, according to Karuk Tribe spokesman S.
Craig Tucker, who stated in an interview that the report
should be a “call to action” for local business leaders.
The study report, “Economic Impact of the Klamath
Settlement Agreements,” was commissioned by the groups
California Trout and PROSPER and focuses “on the Impact
of Restoration and Construction Activity on the
Economies of Del Norte, Humboldt, Klamath, and Siskiyou
Counties.”
The report states that study results showed a potential
for 298 full- and part-time jobs created by the
agreements, as well as an increase in Siskiyou County
business revenue of $20.68 million on an annual basis.
The Siskiyou Daily News will feature an in-depth look at
the report in Thursday’s paper.
