ETNA — The public is invited to attend a
presentation on Scott River’s salmon and steelhead at the monthly
meeting of the Scott River Watershed Council, 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
Etna City Council chambers.
Erich Yokel, fisheries projects’ coordinator for the Siskiyou
Resource Conservation District, will give the presenation with
visuals.
According to a press release, Yokel has helped the RCD collect data on
salmon and steelhead throughout their life cycles by performing adult
carcass surveys, juvenile direct observation studies and out-migration
juvenile trapping, since 2004.
RCD also collects data on fish habitat to better
understand the quality and quantity of where fish live.
Yokel will discuss how biological and physical monitoring go
hand-in-hand and are the two main components of monitoring aquatic
health, according to the release.
Yokel is also involved in a limiting factors analysis, studying
factors that may limit salmon and steelhead numbers in the Scott
River.
“Through effective monitoring, people can provide
more effective management,” Yokel said in the statement.
