Popular cowboy poet comes to
Klamath Falls

September 19, 2006

Submitted photo - Baxter Black, described by the New York Times as the nation’s greatest living poet, will be performing at the sheep dog championship finals on Sept. 30.

KLAMATH FALLS, ORE. — Baxter Black is known throughout the west as one of the finest cowboy poets today. Black says that description is an exaggeration.

Black made his living for a number of years as a large animal veterinarian so his life-like stories about his encounters with cattle and horses come through all too clearly to his fans.

He has been a regular on National Public Radio, heard locally on Jefferson Public Radio, KSOR out of Ashland, Ore.

Black has made many public appearances on television and also written books, recorded CDs and videos and performed on commercial radio.

Black’s latest book, “Horseshoes, Cowsocks & Duckfeet” offers his take on everything from ranching to roping in Wrangler jeans; rodeos to weddings and romance; the love of a good dog to dancing, parenting and cooking up trouble. And never forget the weather!

Black lives in Benson, Arizona, between the Gila River and the Gila monster; the Mexican border and the Border Patrol; and between the horse and the cow – wherever the action is.

He still does not own a television or a cell phone, and his idea of a modern convenience is Velcro chaps.

Everything about Baxter is cowboy – his cartoonish mustache, his personality, his life style and his poetry. He makes a living through poetry that shines a spotlight on the flaws and foibles of everyday cowboy life. Fans say the truth in his humor is what makes him so funny.

Where some believe he may have evolved, Baxter Black is much more than just an entertainer. He is the real deal because, as he says, “It’s hard to be what you aren't.”

Black will be performing at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 30. General admission tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the gate.

VIP tickets are available at $100 which include a pre-event VIP reception with Baxter Black at 6:00 p.m. and VIP seating at the show at 7:30 p.m.

A VIP pass is available at $150 which includes admission to the sheep dog finals plus a VIP Ticket to Baxter Black reception and show. (A savings of $50)

Tickets are available on line at www.sheep dog finals.com or information about tickets and the show can be obtained by calling (530)-664-2168

The sheep dog championship finals are being held this year at the Kerr Ranch located at 9010 Lower Klamath Lake Road just south of Klamath Falls, Ore.
