he Yurok Tribe has a new chairperson, Maria Tripp, and a new vice-chairperson, Bonnie (Hoddy-Bacon) Green following the certification of the Nov. 8 run-off election results.

Tripp received 53.4 percent of the vote or 516 votes nearly seven percentage points above incumbent Howard McConnell who received 46.6 percent or 450 votes.

Green, formerly a member of the tribal council, received 53.2 percent or 518 votes for vice chairperson compared to incumbent Thomas P. O'Rourke Sr.'s 46.8 percent or 455 votes.

Green served most recently as South District representative to the Tribal Council. The district stretches from north of Trinidad nearly to Shelter Cove.

A tribal representative said Tuesday that Green's former seat on the council will remain vacant until the mid-October 2007 election.

Five people originally vied for the position of chairperson while four sought the position of vice chairperson seat in the Oct. 11 general election.
