No shortage of candidates for Yurok Tribe's election

KLAMATH -- Five people, including incumbent Howard McConnell, are vying for the position of tribal chairperson in the Yurok Tribe's Oct. 11 election.

The Yurok Election Board announced the certification of candidates for tribal chairperson, vice chairperson and the Orick District Friday.

McConnell faces challengers Judith Marasco, Jene L. McCovey, Jacqueline D. Nix and Maria Trip.

Incumbent Vice Chairperson Thomas P. O'Rourke Sr. is running against three challengers for the seat: Lavina Brooks, Bonnie (Hoddy-Bacon) Green and David Severns.

Orick District Tribal Councilman Larry Hendrix is running for reelection and will face challenger Wendy Kull. The District runs from the Klamath River in the north to the Little River in the south and slightly inland.

All Yurok Tribal members who will be 18 years of age by Oct. 11, must register to vote by Aug. 25.
